Yes, I am a compassionate nerd who swears. Maybe a lot.
I originally started this blog as a holistic health practice, but gradually transitioned to working with women in peri-menopause and found I really enjoyed it. Peri-menopause and the mid-life journey are a very holistic phase and we need all the tools of physical, mental, and spiritual health to get through it.
In 2012 I started writing about the Sex Surge, because I was going through it, and stumbled upon a problem no one was talking about. As a rebellious science chick, I had to talk about it. I knew women needed a place to read about the Sex Surge and know they weren’t going crazy. Because it’s part of the peri-menopause journey, it was natural to integrate the two topics.
If you’re a mid-life woman who swears, this is the place for you. If you’re a little, or a lot, rebellious, this is the place for you. If you’re balancing your responsibilities with living life your way, this is the place for you. If you’re sassy and smart, this is the place for you.
This website, and my newsletter, are a safe place for mid-life women to be real about what’s happening in their body and life and to get information, practical tools, and inspiration to make the best of where they’re at. I’m pretty real and sometimes very raw here.
More About Your Fearless Leader
I’m originally from Seattle but have lived in Rhode Island, USA, for almost two decades. Besides being swear-y, I also have a stipe of purple hair and a lot of tattoos (I’m from the 90s, what can I say?!?). I’m partnered to a dude and we have two kids and a dog. We love to travel.
Professionally, I have worked in healthcare for more than twenty years, both in public health and personal health initiatives. I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health Education, my Master’s degree in Social Work, and a degree in Interfaith Spirituality (I’m actually an ordained minister- surprise!). That’s why I take a holistic perspective on health and mid-life.
Personally, I’ve been through the Sex Surge and lived to tell the tale. I’m only just starting the journey of peri-menopause, but now it’s time to take my own advice- ha! I’m an Aquarius, INFJ, I love drinking this tea and reading a book or eating a bowl of buttered popcorn and watching a movie. My favorite book is still Anne of Green Gables, although for very different reasons than when I first read it at the age of 12. And I feel really lucky and glad to be at mid-life.
